1st Class 2013-2014

We have been busy in Ms.Cunningham's 1st Class from September till now. We collected lots of beautiful Autumn leaves and did lovely Art work with them. Maggie, our S.N.A; helped us.
On the 19th of September, Kay from Brigid's Garden came to do gardening with us. We picked the vegetables that had grown over the summer-carrots, onions, scallions and lettuce, and we brought some home for dinner!

Maths Eyes Trail 30/05/2013

We had a great day out yesterday when Mr.O'Riordan, Ms Linnane and our teacher took us on a walking tour of Galway. It was a beautiful sunny day and we wore suncream to protect our skin. We used our "Maths eyes" to answer questions in our booklets about the different things we saw. We had a picnic in Eyre Square and another one in Millenium Park! Here are some of the places we visited:
Eyre Square
Ceannt Station
Supermacs
Shop Street
Courthouse
Salmon Weir Bridge
The Cathedral
Millenium Park playground
Thankfully, we got the 402 bus home to Renmore as we were all tired after all the walking!
Thanks to Mr.O'Riordan for organising a great day out and to Ms Linnane for coming to help out!

News

We have been busy in First Class since we came back to school in January. On the 15th of January, we went to Leisureland to a concert given by the R.T.É. Concert Orchestra. The conductor's name was Gearóid Grant and he was very funny! We saw and heard all the instruments of the orchestra. It was great!

Sr. Breda came to visit us last week. She asked us questions about the Christmas story, and we sang songs for her. We were so good that she said we could have a night off homework! We were listening to stories about little beings, so for Art last week, each of us made our own little being! You can see the photos here.

St. Brigid's Day 2013

We used pipecleaners to make St. Brigid's crosses on the 1st of February. Maggie, one of the S.N.A.s in our school, demonstrated how to make a cross using rushes that were collected in Barna woods. Look at our photos!

Spring

We have been learning all about spring. We now know that beautiful flowers grow in spring, birds return from hot countries, the days get longer and baby animals are born. The snowdrop is the first flower of spring. We decided to paint this beautiful spring background and then painted chicks, flowers, rabbits and lambs for our spring scene. We are very proud of our spring picture.

Learning About Different Countries

We learned all about Australia and China. We found out what life is like for everyone living in these countries. When we are going to school, children in Australia are in bed. It takes 24 hours to get to Australia. We wrote facts about Australia and painted some Australian animals. This year is the year of the rabbit in China. Chinese New Year was in February. We learned that the Great Wall of China is the only thing that can be seen from outer space. Chinese people love to eat rice and drink tea. We made lovely Chinese Dragons for the Chinese New Year and looked at some Chinese writing.
